Today Blake had another awesome day. He started his day with maths and i did what i said i would and went back to easy work i know he could do. He did worksheet after worksheet with me and was happy with no misbehaviour, by the last two it was speed maths how fast can you do it and he was still smiling :) were going to call the a win yay πŸ‘
Some of the things covered were :
Basic Fractions

Really easy missing digits
Addition with regrouping
Speed addition 1
Speed addition 2
more easy Fractions
And finally we tried telling the time to see if he'd even been taught that yet, Blake did amazing at this and i have no worries over him grasping it.

Next Blake did some science life cycle work :
He did his own lifecycle
Blake then did a geography worksheet based on the world map, this needs work as Blake tends to forget were everything is. I am currently trying to source a large map for the wall as a permanent reference, we can work through it bit by bit adding stickers to the areas we've looked at and he can learn about different cultures, religions and traditions as we work round.
He tried to name flags, to be honest i need to brush up on flags then we can try again :)

Finally we looked at the water cycle to see if he knew about it, he knows what it is and can explain it he just needed reminding of some of the vocabulary.
He also made a life cycle flash card game to play with his sisters, watered his now quite tall mini pop, and went on his own little bike ride, he is now enjoying the sun in the back garden
LIFE IS GOOD.

24/05/2018

Blake had a mixed day today. He started with Maths and misbehaved quite a lot. He has a habit of misbehaving instead of asking for help or admitting he wasn't listening to instructions, so most of the maths today was hard work and is wrong. To sort this out i need to go backwards to a place were he was finding maths easy and then move forward with more engaging maths work at this point no other way is going to work. We are still waiting on his old school to report were he was at, so i guess we will be doing this on our own and the hard way. There should be something in law to make sure even if your child is coming out of school to be home taught that progress and other info is passed on to you as if you were another school.

Blake followed this by doing some English worksheets with no problems at all, in fact he was happy and smiling doing them.

His English work is well ahead of his maths, i don't know if this is due to him being a really creative and artistic little boy, or if it's down to teaching and the way hes been taught. As all teaching is programming and every human is programmable i'll put it down to coding errors in the teachers lesson plans.
Blake was over the moon to see his mini pop just starting to break the surface, 24 hours in the poly tunnel mad all the difference.

Blake also tried making Macaron (French macaroon)

Ingredients
Serves: 8

  • 3 egg whites
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 200g icing sugar
  • 110g ground almonds

Method
Prep:30min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:40min

Line a baking tray with a silicone non-stick baking mat.

Beat egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk
attachment until whites are foamy; beat in caster sugar and continue beating
until egg whites are glossy, fluffy, and hold soft peaks. Sift icing sugar and ground
almonds in a separate bowl and quickly fold the almond mixture into the egg whites,
 about 30 strokes.

Spoon a small amount of batter into a plastic bag with a small corner cut off and
pipe a test disk of mixture, about 4cm in diameter, onto prepared baking tray.
If the disk holds a peak instead of flattening immediately, gently fold the mixture
a few more times and retest.

When batter is mixed enough to flatten immediately into an even disk, spoon
into a pastry bag fitted with a plain round tip. Pipe the mixture onto the baking
tray in rounds, leaving space between the disks. Let the piped macarons
stand out at room temperature until they form a hard skin on top, about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 140 degrees C.

Bake macarons until set but not browned, about 10 minutes; let cool completely
before filling.
Recipe is from http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/38831/macaron--french-macaroon-.aspx
They didn't work out quite right but Blake and his sisters are looking forward to having
them with ice cream for pudding πŸ˜‹.

Tuesday 22/05/2018 and Wednesday 23/05/2018

22/05/2018 - 23/05/2018

Blake was ill Tuesday and Wednesday but he still managed to get a few bits of work done. Firstly Blake's mini pop shows no signs of life so because of poor germination this year we have moved it in to the greenhouse to see if it takes, think we picked a bad year for this.
Blake did some English -

Blake did a page of Math number sequences -

Wednesday afternoon Blake learned to make cheese, garlic, and cherizo scones -

By Wednesday afternoon Blake appeared to feel better :).

21/05/2018

Blake had a awesome day today, he completed the first 10 pages of an English work book called CGP National Curriculum English - Literacy Work book year 5. He was a little cheeky and asked why he had to do this stuff cause he already knew it, but i explained the school hadn't passed over any paper work so i don't know what hes covered. Other than that Blake sat and completed all work put in front of him, at this point i'm not sure what the school's problem was but what ever it was it's not Blake !.
Blake found this work to easy, were going to follow this work book but race through it to find were hes at (unless the school forward the paper work they spoke of first).

Blake was going to water his mini pop but the rain beat him to it, he reported no change yet.

Another awesome day for Blake, he spent the mornige over the allotment working out how to make our pond area more wildlife friendly. He then made some video footage. Unfortunately i hadn't formatted the SD card so i lost all his footage, as he was very upset with Meg (his sister) took him back over the allotment this afternoon and re-filmed 😊 all is well now, the video is edited and up on my allotment channel on you tube.

Blake watered his mini pop and reported no growth yet.
To finish off his week Blake was given a blank map to test if he had learnt were the sea's were and their names, he didn't do to well and will re-do next week.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow Blake ! 🎷🎸🎹🎺🎻🎼🎡

17/05/2018

Today Blake had a super day, he watch Plant ocean a blue planet documentary that is an hour and half long, i am so proud of my son who usually can't sit still for 10 minutes. As soon as it finished he asked to watch another 😳 he continued to keep still and watch Story of Earth and life for another hour and a half .............. Now tomorrow  he has Science and English tasks tied into what hes watched, my son is awesome :) x.

Blake has watered his mini pop again today and made written report, no change yet ...
Blake looked at his map and seems to have the oceans nailed, he gets tested tomorrow evening.

Blake can now start doing a written piece on the life cycle of chickens as one clutch has hatched and another are close to hatching 😊😊.

We have slightly older chicks.

And we have the adults, so every stage is covered for Blake's life cycle report and i think he could give his family a presentation to.

Tomorrow Blake will be going to the allotment to do further work on the life cycle of plants, and i would like his advice on drawing more wildlife in to our pond area. So hopefully he will come up with some bug house designs and things like that.
